Daybed Comforter - Daybed Bedding Sets
A daybed comforter or cover can change the look and feel of a bed that often does double duty as extra seating in a bedroom or den.
Dress your versatile and functional furniture in a fluffy, floral day bed comforter set for a little girl's room – or in fitted corduroy for an upholstered look on the daybed in the den that sometimes serves as a guest room. Loose or tailored, daybed comforters or comforter sets are usually composed of four or five standard pieces:
- cover / comforter;
- bed skirt (ruffled or tailored); and
- three ready-to-stuff standard-size pillow shams or two king-size shams for arranging across the back of the bed.
Although a daybed typically uses a standard twin mattress (39 in. x 75 in.), it does not "make up" like an ordinary bed due to the way it is constructed. Daybeds have a framework of two sides and a back (a bit like a sofa, with arms and a back). The back and sides are held together by a link spring, which also serves as a box spring for the daybed mattress (rendering an ordinary box springs unnecessary).
So while a standard twin mattress pad and sheets are a given, choosing what to put on top of the bed provides a bit of a challenge, given the range of styles and sizes. Daybed covers usually have three sides, the front and two sides), while a daybed comforter or spread is usually four-sided. When choosing the bedding, look for a daybed comforter cover and bed skirt that will accommodate the sides and back where the hardware connections join the link spring to the framework. Look for day bed coverings that have split corners to fit easily around every corner of the frame where it's joined to the link spring.
To achieve a more formal, less traditional bedding look, select a welted heavy-duty cover for your day bed, especially if it is situated in a family room or den ... you'll want it to be as durable as a couch. When company comes, simply whisk off the cover and voila! A ready-made guest bed is underneath!
A guest room daybed is a wonderful way to show off a charming matelasse coverlet atop a simple linen bed skirt, with a mix of multi-sized pillows strewn across the back.
The only difficulty in getting bedding for your day bed is making a choice from so many options. With the right cover ensemble, you can show your daybed off in any room of the house!
