Pillow Shams - Bedding Shams
Your duvet-draped bed isn't complete until you've added pillows encased in coordinated shams.
Comforters and duvets are not made to enfold and tuck over your bed pillows, so stylishly covered pillows to sit atop the bed are the decorating solution!
What are pillow shams ?
Shams are simply decorative covers for pillow inserts. They are usually designed with an envelope-style closure in the back for the pillow to slip in like a folded letter; or with tailored flaps of fabric between which the pillow is inserted. New styles of shams have hidden button enclosures or fasten with ties at one end, similar to duvet covers. Pillow shams are different than pillowcases, the latter of which are open at one end.
Pillow shams are a key accessory to the fully dressed bed. Comforter cover sets and duvet cover sets all include two or three coordinating pillow shams (depending on comforter size) to round out a finished look. Ruffled or flanged shams can be made from the same cotton sheeting as your bedding, or from heavy woven fabrics that will add textural interest, such as matelasse or quilted shams.
What are typical pillow sham sizes?
