You want something fresh and new that reflects your own personal style. Below are a few easy and inexpensive ideas to give ordinary chairs a whole new look. Whether you want furniture covers to protect your chairs or to hide them, you will be thrilled with the results. Note that these slip covers work best on simple chairs. You will want to look at patterns and how-to books for slipcovers for sofas, sectionals, ottomans or any stuffed furniture.

No-sew furniture covers:

The Sheath - This is a great trick for protecting dining chairs during a party or to add a fast new look to old chairs. First you will need to measure the back of the chair, from the top of the chair back to just short of the floor. Then measure the front – including the chair back, the seat and down the legs. Now add all your measurements together allowing 1-1/2 inches for seam allowance. Measure the width of the chair (also add the 1-1/2 inch seam allowance). Now cut your fabric accordingly. You are left with a long narrow strip of material. Use an iron to iron a seam allowance all the way around. Now use your trusted glue gun to glue the hem in place. Once this is done, drape the material over the chair evenly. Now take a piece of ribbon and tie it around the base of the back of the chair. Tie the bow in the back. You're done! You can use a heavy duty material if you are making furniture covers for outdoor furniture.

Double duty pillowcases – Yes, pillow cases. They come in a wide assortment of colors and patterns. Just slip large pillowcases over the back of chairs and you have an instant furniture slipcover.

T-shirt madness - This is particularly fun for children's parties or summer themes. Using all one color gives a playful and colorful look. But using a variety of t-shirt really kicks it up a notch. They are just fun!

The perfect bow – You can't beat the elegance of a simple bow. Take a piece of satin material, wrap it around the base of the back of the chair and tie a decorative bow in the back. Just perfect!
