Silk flowers and plants require very little care. Just keep them out of direct sunlight that can fade their leaves, and give them a quick cleaning when they get dusty. That is all there is to keeping them looking fresh and vibrant for years to come.

How to clean silk flowers:

Feather duster - a few quick, light passes with a feather duster will usually wipe away light dust that has settled on the leaves. Do this on a regular basis and you will avoid a buildup of dust that is more difficult to remove.

Hair dryer - You hair dryer is a very versatile tool. For more stubborn dust, try using your hairdryer on its coolest setting. However, be sure not to get too close to the flowers as you may overheat them, causing them to loose their shape.

Salt Shaker - Pour about one cup of table salt in a large paper bag. Grocery bags work great for this purpose. If you can remove your flowers from the container easily, it is a good idea to do this. Place your flowers in the paper bag, roll the top down a couple of times and then gently shake the bag. The salt will scrub the dust from the flowers and leaves without harming them. Be sure to shake the plant a bit as you remove it from the paper bag to make sure all the salt is off. You can then save the salt in the paper bag for future use.

Vacuum - For flowers with larger petals and leaves, you can use a mini vacuum cleaner head. Most vacuums have this type of attachments that fits on the end of the hose. It has a little brush on it, so that as you brush the dust loose, it suctions it away.

Cheap Hair Spray - Some people have had success with cheap aerosol hair spray. Outdoors, or in a well-ventilated area, just spray directly on the arrangement. The dust disappears and the flowers look brand new. The drawback to this method is hair spray buildup. Don't be too heavy handed.

Dryer sheets - A dryer sheet can be used to wipe down larger petals and leaves. The coarse tacky sheet removed dust easily. Then you can re-use the sheets in the dryer later.

Silk plant cleaner - There are several commercial silk plant cleaners available. Although they are effective, they are also expensive, and do not last long.
