Bath Lifter - Bathtub Lift Chair - Tub Lift
Use a bath lifter to turn daily bathing into a relaxing event. Those with limited mobility often struggle to bathe.
Showers become a way of life, even though a warm soak in the tub seems more appealing. Getting in and out of a bathtub is problematic for the elderly or disabled.
Even using grab bars doesn't always eliminate problems. If your feet slip on the bath tub floor, you can still fall backwards, landing hard on your tailbone. If you have a bath tub chair lift to help you get in and out of the tub, you never must worry about having someone around to help you get in and out of the tub.
How a Bath Lifter Works
A bath lifter is a waterproof shower seat. It sits evenly to the edge of your filled bathtub. Wheelchair users simply pull up to the side of the tub and use the grab bars and wheelchair to slide from the wheelchair to the shower seat. Others can simply use the grab bars for support and sit on the chair while they swing their legs into the bath tub.
Once the user is settled on the bath lifter, they can push the button on the controller to lower themselves into the water. Most bath lifters have reclining backs, also controlled through a push of a button. The user can recline into the water to shampoo hair or simply to lay back and relax.
When the bath is over, the users push the buttons returning the reclining backs on the bathtub lifts to the normal position. Then a push of the button raises the tub lift back out of the water and even to the edge of the bathtub.
Installing a Bath Lifter in Your Home
When adding a bath lifter to your bathroom area, you don't need to install much equipment. Most bath tub lifts simply get placed in the bath tub and then the suction cups are pushed down to secure the chair to the floor. You can do this easily but sitting on the bath seat.
Depending on the form of chair, you may need to find a place for the battery charger or air tank if the bath lifter uses air pressure to rise and lower. Some bath tub lift chairs use water pressure, so you may want to keep an area open for out-of-the-way storage of the tubes.
