Self Hypnosis to Quit Smoking
Sometimes quitting smoking can be very difficult. Self-hypnosis to quit smoking is being tried more and more often. The option for self-hypnosis is as readily available, if not more so, than going to an experienced, licensed hypnotherapist. There is no danger in self-hypnosis, and you might even save some money.
Getting Ready To Quit
When preparing yourself for self-hypnosis, there are a few steps you can make to ensure your success.
- Decide when you want to stop smoking. From there decide on a "quit date" and stick to it.
- Mentally prevent yourself from lighting up your first cigarette of the day right off the bat. Even only making yourself wait an hour or two will help you significantly. Do the same for the end of your day as well. Smoke your last cigarette and hour or two before bed instead of right before.
- Instead of smoking an entire cigarette, only smoke half of one.
- Do not empty full ashtrays. Leave the cigarette butts there for you to see and to smell so that you may be deterred.
Only take steps such as these right before, and during the beginning of your self-hypnotism. After a few days, cold turkey works the best.
How It's Done
You have already taken the first step, and want to quit smoking. Now, it's just about doing it. Hypnosis and self-hypnosis is all about being able to relax and the "power of suggestion". Before sending your self-conscious in a hypnotic trance, write down positive suggestions for you to quit smoking:
- "I will have no desire to smoke"
- "Life will be easy without cigarettes"
- "I will be unable to put a cigarette in my mouth"
To begin a session of self-hypnosis, it helps to sit in a place in your home or office where you feel comfortable. Starting to count down from ten, and then back up again will help you into a hypnotic trance. Focus on your breathing, and how the air feels filling up in your lungs then exhaling out.
Once you feel like you are in a state of total relaxation, start by repeating slowly the positive suggestions you came up with. Really focus on the words, and say them with a purpose. Over time, these "suggestions" will become your reality, and you will overcome smoking.
