What About The Vitamin B Nutrients

Vitamin B complex is a group of water-soluble nutrients, comprised of B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (Biotin), B9 (folic acid) and B12 (cyanocobalamin). While not essential, choline, inositol and PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) are considered part of the vitamin B complex. The B complex is essential because it is critical to metabolism, the nervous system, vital organs, eyes, muscles, skin and hair and because the human body cannot manufacture it.

B Complex

The vitamin B complex is found in meat and fish, dairy products and eggs, leafy green vegetables, fruits, whole grains and nuts. Marine source of protein not only carry the vitamin b group, but you'll also benefit from the omega 3 fish oils present.

Like vitamin B, coq10 is crucial for energy production in the body-it helps produce about 95% of the energy in the human body. It does this by metabolizing the fats and carbohydrates in the mitochondria, where energy is produced in the cell. It also helps maintain the strength and flexibility of cells in the body. Because of its role in metabolism, vitamin B plus coq10 can potentially be used as a weight loss supplement, although there is little evidence that coq10 supplements can increase coq10 levels beyond a certain point.

If you are a vegetarian or vegan, your sources of the vitamin B complex are numerous, but the quantity of B complex available is limited in the foods you eat, particularly for vitamin B12. Fortunately, this vitamin can be stored in the liver to sustain you, but needs to be replenished from food sources or supplements.

B Vitamins Deficiency Diseases

A vitamin B deficiency can cause diseases like anemia, dermatitis, encephalitis, pellagra and beriberi. Vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 get a lot of attention because they support the nervous system, the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and the production of healthy blood cells.

Fat burners such as CLA, DHEA or the addition of coq10 into a vitamin B supplementation plan will maximize your body's ability to metabolize incoming food. So rather than store calories, you can enhance your body's natural "calorie burn rate".

A balanced diet of fresh foods may protect you, but note that the Bs can lose potency from food processing and handling. This is why many health advocates say to supplement your diet to ensure against a vitamin B deficiency. Also, if you are over 50 years old, your ability to absorb B12 diminishes and supplementation may be necessary.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines recommend how much of each B complex vitamin you should take. Adults consume at least 13-20 milligrams (mg) of vitamin B6 each day, depending on age and gender. For B12, adults should consume at least 2 milligrams (mg) each day. Pregnant and lactating women need more

Do you keep an active lifestyle? Are you a smoker or heavy drinker? Do you have a chronic health problem? If you said yes to any of these, you are candidate to take even larger doses of these vitamins, as well as B1, B2, B3 and B5.

Do not give in to the hype about taking mega-doses of vitamin B6 or vitamin B12. Most research shows therapeutic value from dosage levels only modestly higher than USDA guidelines. Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, neurological conditions, arteriosclerosis, dementia, Chrone's disease and many others have shown improvement from B supplementation.

You can find pill, capsule, powder, liquid, sub-lingual and spray supplements for B complex or separately for vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. Time-release or enteric coated forms may offer an advantage in spreading absorption throughout the day. There may also be a slight advantage to taking a whole food supplement where the vitamin B complex occurs in a natural balance. Whatever you do, it is wise to check with your doctor before taking vitamin b complex, vitamin B6 or vitamin B12 supplements
