Regular Maintenance for Blowers
Every time you use Stihl Leaf Blowers, you should clean the exterior of the blower immediately following use. Check the fuel line and air filter for visible dirt and replace if either appears dirty. If you own a vacuum model, use canned air to clean off the fan impeller.
Before starting your leaf blower, check that the screws and nuts are tight. If any seem loose, tighten them immediately. Make sure the bag on your leaf blower vacuum is on correctly and zipped up. If the zipper is broken, purchase a replacement collection bag from a dealer selling Stihl Leaf Blower parts. Inspect the housing of the leaf blower for chips and cracks.
Once you've started the leaf blower, make sure the throttle and stop switch are functioning properly. If you feel the engine is not revving correctly, turn off the machine and have it tuned or inspected by a professional. You do not want the engine to overheat causing considerable damage and increasing a risk for fire.
After using the leaf blower for a week, you should clean the spark plug and the spark arrest screen. Check spark plug's gap measurement. If it is incorrect, replace it or adjust the gap if you know how. Check the carburetor and clean it if necessary. Make sure the leaf blower vac's air intake hose is not clogged with leaves or other debris.
End of the Season Maintenance
At the end of the season, drain the fuel tank. Check cables and connections for wear and tear. Check the starter cord for wear and that it is has the proper amount of tension. Clean all fan blades. Clean the carburetor and the area surrounding it. Change the fuel filter and spark plug. This ensures your leaf blower will start perfectly after the winter ends.
