For a basic string trimmer model, try the 195's, 222's or 231's. All three are powerful gas trimmer units. The 242's kick it up with a better power and weight ratio.

Those concerned about emissions should check out the 261's, 2510's or 3410's. They are low-emission, but still tough on weeds. The 2510's include Shindaiwa String Trimmer's C4 technology making this a popular choice.

The 3410's also include the C4 technology but throw in a few surprises. First, the engine runs with 10,500 rpm, so you get plenty of power. A comfortable shoulder strap balances the weight during use. While the engine is low-noise like a four-cycle engine, you don't worry about keeping an eye on oil levels. You still use the 50:1 gas/oil mix that typically goes into two-cycle engines.

Those with mid-sized yards may enjoy the 270, 272's or 282's. These garden trimmers will handle a good deal of yard work without feeling bulky or heavy.

Easy Starting Engines
