KDF Shower Filters - KDF 55 Water Filter

All KDF Shower Filter units remove a number of contaminants from your shower water. Using non-toxic filtration materials, a shower filter containing KDF media meet government requirements regulating the number of gallons per minute passing through your showerhead. Per U.S. regulations, water flow must meet the 2.5 gpm ruling.

KDF shower filters usually are two-stage filters meaning there are two-steps involved in removing chlorine, chemicals, bacteria, sediment, minerals and heavy metals from your water. The two-stage process must not reduce the 2.5 gallon flow rate and must be effective at removing contaminants in hot or warm water. For this reason, a lot of research went into creating the two-stage KDF shower filters.

How KDF Shower Filter Systems Work

All KDF Shower Filters start with a first stage where chlorine is de-ionized into chloride. The chloride is non-toxic and simply leaves the showerhead as purified water. The KDF filter is made up of a mixture of copper and zinc. These metals cause a reaction between electrons changing the chemical into a neutral substance that is too big for the skin pores to absorb, so the chloride simply goes down the drain.

KDF also removes:

  • Bacteria
  • Heavy metals, including lead
  • Hydrogen sulfide
  • Microorganisms
  • THMs
  • VOCs

While those on well water might feel their water is fine and there's no need for filtration, the truth is microorganisms and bacteria are often plentiful. If your water has sulfur bacteria, you know that distinct smell of hydrogen sulfide, it's like rotten eggs.

Usefulness of KDF Shower Filter Systems

KDF Shower Filters are designed to work in hot and cold water. They remove substances from your shower water that dry your hair and skin and cause hair coloring to fade quickly. They also help remove lime scale from your shower fixtures and tub walls.

A KDF Shower Filter removes up to 95 percent of the chlorine in your water and up to 98 percent of the heavy metals found in your water. All filter systems have a back flush feature that prevents them from clogging.

Every 10,000 gallons, approximately 6 months with average use, you should replace your KDF shower filter.
