Student Gap Year Europe - France and England
Travel to Europe and spend your gap year in England, France or other European nations. Volunteer and internships are easily to find in Europe. From picking grapes to helping in Romanian orphanages, you'll experience new cultures and make plenty of lasting friendships.
Work for a Vineyard During Your Gap Year in France
A popular gap year France program involves working at area vineyards. You pick grapes during the harvest season. French gap year programs harvesting grapes usually only last a few weeks, so you will need to find something to do afterward. In addition, the gap year France programs fill up fast! Harvesting is a great way to earn some cash before moving on to your next gap year international destination. Visit Apcon for more information.
Working in a Romanian Orphanage During a Gap Year Abroad
Romania became a part of Europe in 2007 and is one of the poorest countries on that continent. Participating in Projects Abroad Care Project Romania involves staying with a Romanian family near the orphanage where you will work. Volunteers are needed day and night. Duties include bathing and feeding children, diaper changes and joining them in play.
For more information, contact Projects Abroad . You must receive background clearance by the local police. Expect the background check to take up to 40 days.
Spend Your Gap Year Immersing Yourself in Culture and Language
After your senior year, head to Iceland for a school year. You'll live with a local family and attend a local high school learning the culture and language. To qualify, you must be between the ages of 15.5 and 18.5 years. You'll be in Iceland for ten months. After school ends, you can opt to spend an additional week living on an Icelandic farm.
Other countries offering these school exchanges include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden. Visit AFS for more information.
Au Pair Work for Gap Years in Europe
Make money during your gap year abroad. Au pair work is a great experience for both the au pair and the host family. Scan through lists of families in Europe, even France and the UK, looking for an au pair. You get paid a small stipend, usually $50 to $100 a week. You live with the family and care for their children. Au pairs may be asked to do other tasks such as preparing meals and doing household chores, but this is arranged prior to your arrival.
The host family provides the au pair with a room, access to a car and meals. Au pairs are given a couple days off a week to tour the area or make friends. Spend your gap year in France or England doing au pair work. It's a great opportunity for those who want to visit Europe while still earning some money. Visit GoAuPair for more information.
