Because their coverage involves wellness plans, any Banfield pet insurance plan focuses on disease prevention and yearly check ups. Unlike traditional veterinary health insurance, Banfield covers pre-existing conditions because the wellness plans cover discounts on all veterinary services.

Primary and Basic Banfield Pet Insurance Wellness Plans for Puppies and Kittens

Banfield pet insurance wellness plans are available in two levels for puppies and kittens.

Primary wellness plans provide a yearly check-up including vaccinations, dental exams, fecal tests for parasitic worms, Feline AIDS testing, blood cell count and heartworm testing for puppies only. The veterinary health insurance also covers an ear swap to check for mites and free office calls during business hours.

Banfield pet insurance on the primary level gives you a five percent discount on any other veterinary service. You can use that discount for prescription medications and foods.

Basic wellness coverage covers everything listed above but also adds a spay or neuter, hip dysplasia screening and provides a 10 percent discount on all other services.

Pet Insurance Wellness Plans for Adult Dogs and Cats

You can choose the Primary or Basic level of coverage for your pet, but Banfield pet insurance also offers two additional policies for adult animals.

Basic Plus covers everything under the Basic wellness plan. It also covers one dental cleaning per year, general anesthesia and urinalysis. Other veterinary services are discounted by 15 percent.

If you upgrade to the Optimum wellness plan, you'll get everything listed above, plus a heartworm test for cats, electrocardiograms and yearly chest x-ray for dogs. With this pet health insurance plan, you'll receive a 20 percent discount on all other veterinary services.

Choosing a Banfield Veterinary Hospital

Banfield medical pet insurance wellness plans require you to take your cat or dog to a Banfield animal practice. With more than 745 locations in the U.S., you shouldn't have too hard a time finding an acceptable vet. Many PetSmart stores offer Banfield veterinary services. It is important to realize that if your vet is not associated with Banfield Pet Hospitals, you will be required to switch.
