If you want your pet insurance to be there to help pay for routine care like vaccinations, teeth cleanings and spaying or neutering, look for a policy with that specific coverage. If you lost a prior pet to cancer, you may want to look into companies that have exceptional cancer coverage.
Veterinary Health Insurance Companies Offering Vaccination and Spay/Neuter Coverage
VPI Pet Insurance is managed by Nationwide insurance. They offer two plans, Standard or Superior, that can be supplemented with CareGuard coverage. The CareGuard rider adds coverage for vaccinations, oral care and spaying or neutering.
The ASPCA also offers coverage for vaccinations and spay/neuter procedures. Their insurance is provided by the Hartsville Group. There are two levels of insurance that cover basic care. The Wellness coverage reimburses you for 80 percent of the following veterinary procedures:
- Annual exam
- Fecal tests
- Heartworm testing
- Spaying/neutering
- Vaccinations (Basic)
Upgrading to the ASPCA's Wellness Plus plan also covers less common vaccinations, flea and heartworm treatments and a yearly teeth cleaning. All ASPCA pet insurance policies require $100 annual deductibles.
The Best Pet Health Insurance for Emergency Care
For under $20 a month, the ASPCA offers pet health insurance that covers accidents. If your animal runs into the road and is hit by a car, you won't pay much for x-rays, surgeries and treatment for shock or broken bones.
VPI also provides coverage for emergency care that includes hospitalization and prescription medications too. It's important to note that their standard plan caps your benefit limit at $9,000 a year.
Medical Pet Insurance that Covers Cancer Care
Not every pet health insurance company covers cancer testing and treatments. Radiation and chemotherapy are costly and pet insurance helps cover the expense. VPI does offer a cancer rider that will cover most aspects of treating a dog or cat with cancer.
Be aware that VPI does not cover every type of cancer, though they do provide coverage for the major ones like Mast Cell Tumors, Stomach cancer and Leukemia. You also should be aware that they will not cover pre-existing conditions.
