Trupanion Pet Health Insurance - Vet Insurance for Pets
Trupanion pet insurance is recommended by many veterinarians. Sold online and through PETCO stores, the pet insurance provides exceptional coverage to any cat or dog. Founded by Darryl Rawlings, a marketing whiz, the goal of Trupanion pet insurance is to help pet owners ensure the health of their pets through medical pet insurance coverage.
In every stage of Trupanion pet insurance's development, top veterinarians were consulted to determine what pet owners most needed in terms of pet insurance coverage. Today, Trupanion has been providing pet insurance policies for 10 years. The pet insurance company is worth well more than $25 million and grows daily.
Trupanion Pet Insurance Limits
Unlike other medical pet insurance companies that limit coverage on chronic ailments, Trupanion avoids maximum limits on illnesses and conditions. However, there is a policy payout limit of $20,000 for the lifetime of your pet.
Trupanion pet insurance covers 90 percent of the eligible services provided by your pet's veterinarian. You decide if you want a yearly deductible or not. Current deductibles range from $50 to $1,000.
Be aware that your premiums may increase if your veterinarian increases the cost of services. Monthly premiums do not increase as your pet ages, however.
Filing a Claim with Trupanion Pet Insurance
To file a claim with Trupanion, you must print out the form online or call their toll-free number and have a form sent to your fax, email or home address. You must submit the claim within 90 days of your veterinary visit. Include a copy of the veterinary bill and make sure you have your veterinarian fill out section B on the claim form.
Once Trupanion processes your claim, a check will be mailed to you. Until then, you must pay your veterinarian in full unless he is willing to accept a partial payment.
What Trupanion Pet Insurance Policies do not Cover
Pre-existing conditions are not covered with any Trupanion pet insurance company. In addition, hip dysplasia is not covered unless you purchase an additional pet insurance rider.
To have hip dysplasia covered, you must purchase the additional coverage before your dog or cat's first birthday. Make sure you re-enroll your pet every year.
Trupanion pet insurance does not cover veterinary examination fees or an injury that occurs within five days or your enrollment. You must wait 30 days before veterinary fees from an illness are covered.
Fees for spaying or neutering, vaccinations, dental care, fecal tests, nail trimming, heartworm tests and medications and flea prevention are also not covered.
Injury caused by an intentional act, including dog fighting, elective procedures like declawing, boarding, prescription diets, pregnancy, breeding, holistic veterinary visits and medicated shampoos are also not covered.
Finally, if you receive a notice from Trupanion pet insurance asking you to refrain from allowing your dog to perform a specific exercise or routine, such as racing, and you refuse to do this, coverage for any related injuries will be denied.
