VPI Pet Health Insurance - Vet Insurance for Pets

VPI pet insurance is recommended by 90 percent of all veterinarians. The company has been around since 1982. It's available in all of the United States, including Washington D.C., and covers a wide array of conditions and illnesses.

Backed by the National Casualty Company, a subsidiary of Nationwide Mutual Insurance, your claims are handled quickly and accurately. Best of all, coverage is available for more than cats and dogs. VPI pet insurance is also available for birds and exotic animals like hedgehogs, snakes and potbellied pigs.

Using Your VPI Pet Insurance Policy

After enrolling with VPI pet insurance, your pet can see any veterinarian. When you go, you will pay for the services before leaving the veterinary office. Once you get home, fill out a claim form and mail or fax it to VPI. They will go over the bill and calculate the amount they owe using the benefit schedule. They'll subtract the deductible, if necessary, cut you a check and get it in the mail.

VPI Pet Insurance Benefit Schedule

To keep their premiums low, VPI pet insurance uses a benefit schedule. This means that there is a maximum limit that VPI medical pet insurance will pay per condition, test or treatment. Examples of their benefit limits include:

  • Diagnosis of congestive heart failure - $143
  • Testing for a cardiac arrhythmia - $95
  • Chemotherapy for a mast cell tumor - $174/maximum of $800 with applicable cancer rider
  • Treatment and testing for antifreeze poisoning - $239
  • Treatment and testing for heat stroke - $252
  • CT scan - $400
  • MRI - $500
